Chapter Ten

Light tremors still chased over him from his orgasm as he felt Carrie melt into sleep in his arms. Wiping the sweat from his brow, he was grateful she fell asleep so quickly because his mind was in turmoil. She had him so tied up in knots he didn’t know if he was ever going to be able to go back to the way he was. He had told the truth, her scent had haunted him and made him hard all day long. Memories of last night had replayed again and again until it had seemed as if he could taste her on his tongue.

Carrie had promised she only wanted sex. He’d known she’d been lying and now he knew he was stupid enough to believe he could take her on those terms. She’d told him, she only wanted his nights but she was stealing into his day. Today he had pushed back a planned check up on the Phoenix office. His secretary had asked as a simple confirmation before scheduling the flight and hotel but instead of the yes he had meant to say, Carrie had flashed across his mind and he’d said no. The idea of leaving her so soon, in just three days hadn’t been something he could fathom. A few keystrokes and he’d brought up his schedule and gave himself another week with her.

It didn’t matter he’d just come back from an unscheduled trip to their New Orleans office to escape Carrie for the last week. Now it was different after having her in his arms. His secretary had paused for two seconds and in that time he knew he was fucked all to hell. Hanging up he’d stared at the phone, not seeing it, his mind only on Carrie. He needed to back out of this, stop it before he hurt her too deeply. The thought hadn’t even been completed before he’d shook his head, wasn’t going to happen. No way was he walking out of heaven after just one night. He’d refused to give it further thought and a phone call had come in and he’d managed to actually focus on the issue, until he’d hung up.

Rafael’s secretary had been quieter as the day crawled back and he knew he’d surprised her again and she didn’t know what to do about it anymore than he did. He didn’t have a hot temper, he prided himself on his cool, in all things. Rafael disdained not just a hot temper but men who couldn’t contain their desires and had never thought himself passionate in the least way and he’d liked it that way. He did nothing to excess, ever. He had always been able to keep a reign on his temper or libido in the past, so why did the simple thought of Carrie have his blood boiling and his cock hard for so long it was painful?

The rest of the day had been a long crawl until he could have her back in his arms, her kisses so eager, her body melting trustingly into him.
